Uconn Player Collapses: Whaley was surrounded by players and coaches, and medical personnel was called to the bench right away. He quickly rose to his feet and walked off the court.

Whaley fainted after standing up too rapidly, according to UConn coach Dan Hurley, who explained the incident at his postgame press conference. It was not obvious whether there was another component at play, such as dehydration or exhaustion. Whaley had fainted during the game, according to the UConn team account, which tweeted after the game, “but is doing okay now.”

As the clock trickled down to the final seconds of UConn’s thrilling 115–109 double-overtime victory over Auburn, the attention on the Huskies bench immediately shifted to a more serious tone.

It was just as the ESPN broadcast was going away to a different game that senior player Isaiah Whaley collapsed close to the bench, drawing rapid attention from those on the sidelines and creating a frightening picture on the court.

At least Huskies coach Dan Hurley provided a favorable update after the game, noting that Whaley had fainted but was aware, walking around and otherwise unharmed following the incident.

Isaiah Whaley, a Huskies forward, slumped in front of the bench during the final seconds of Wednesday afternoon’s drama between Auburn and UConn, according to reports. It was, to put it mildly, a terrifying scene.

A few moments passed with Whaley standing immobile in front of the bench. Fortunately, he received rapid assistance from the medical team and was allowed to leave the court without further incident.

The next day, UConn head coach Dan Hurley told reporters that Whaley fainted because he got to his feet too quickly after winning the game on Wednesday afternoon. Following Hurley’s news conference, the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team provided an additional update on Whaley’s condition.

“Isaiah Whaley had a fainting spell near the end of the game, but he is presently doing OK.” “We appreciate everyone’s concern and well wishes,” the University of Connecticut’s official Twitter account stated.

According to Alexa Philippou of the Hartford Courant, Hurley stated after the game that Whaley’s fainting episode could have been caused by him standing up too rapidly. In an interview with ESPN’s Karl Ravech, Whaley stated that he was dehydrated but otherwise felt OK and that he wanted to play in Thursday’s game against Michigan State.

The fifth-year forward ended with two points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in the loss against the Cardinals. With 20 seconds left on the clock, he grabbed an offensive rebound after a missed free throw, setting up Tyler Poley’s three-point play to give UConn an 83–81 advantage. In the subsequent play, Auburn’s K.D. Johnson scored with five seconds left to send the game into overtime.
