Brian James Turner CBE was born on May 7, 1946, in the United Kingdom. He is a chef from the United Kingdom who is now based in the capital of the United Kingdom.
His culinary appearances on BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook have lasted since 1994, and he has also been on Saturday Kitchen on a number of occasions, as well as hosting a number of other cooking series.
Michael Smith, a gourmet writer and presenter, served as a mentor to him early in his professional life. Turner was born in the Yorkshire town of Halifax, in the West Riding of the county. Turner had his culinary training in a number of hotels and restaurants, including Simpson’s in the Strand and the Savoy Grill, both of which were run by Richard Shepherd. Afterwards, Turner spent time at the “Beau Rivage Palace” in Lausanne, before returning to the United Kingdom to work at Claridge’s and afterwards at the Capital Hotel, where he and Richard Shepherd were awarded a Michelin star in 1971. In the beginning of 1973, he worked as a Chef Lecturer for a short period of time.
Turner subsequently took over as Chef de Cuisine in 1975, after Shepherd’s departure, and went on to open the Greenhouse Restaurant and the Metro Wine Bar, among other ventures. Gary Rhodes and Shaun Hill were two of the chefs that collaborated with Turner at the Capital Hotel.
Turner’s, a restaurant on Walton Street in Knightsbridge, London, was established in 1986 by Turner himself. In 2001, he sold the business that he had started. Brian Turner’s Restaurant debuted in February 2002 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham’s NEC, while Brian Turner Mayfair opened in April 2003 at the Millennium Hotel in London, both under the ownership of Brian Turner.
The Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor opened Turner’s Grill in January 2005, marking the establishment’s first year in business. Brian Turner Mayfair closed its doors at the end of July 2008, and it was replaced with an Italian restaurant that was not affiliated with Brian Turner.
Turner was granted a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in June 2002 for his contributions to tourism and training in the food profession. Since then, Turner has been appointed Honorary Professor at the University of West London, a Fellow of the City and Guilds of London Institute, and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates of Science by the universities of Leeds Metropolitan and Sheffield Hallam.
He believes the Honorary Apprenticeship Award complements his work with the Adopt a School programme and the Future Chef competition, both of which encourage young people to pursue careers in the food business. Turner has earned an Honorary Apprenticeship Award.
