Coach Cal On Ellen Degeneres Show: During a visit to Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, a young Canadian kid who earned fame for making a passionate pre-game hockey speech brought tears to Ellen DeGeneres’ eyes.
Callan Perks, from Lakefield, Ont., was awarded the chance to deliver the pre-game speech for his local OHL club, the Peterborough Petes, in November of last year.
He was chosen by the club as part of their ‘Next Gen’ day, which allows children to sign one-day contracts to experience what it’s like to be a member of a professional hockey organization.
“I always want to think positively, even if you’re having a rough day, just go out there and ‘Get The W,’ no matter what time of day it is,” Callan said after mentioning his enjoyment of giving presentations.
To give a fantastic motivating speech, he said, “you just have to be optimistic and know that your speech will be the greatest.” “Just do all the nice things and it will happen,” he said.
After that, DeGeneres presented the youngster with some “Coach Cal” essentials. You can see his response in the video below.
Callan and his family traveled to Los Angeles in December to film the episode, which aired in January. They’ll be back in their hometown on Wednesday.
The gregarious Lakefield lad, who was dressed in a coat and tie, paid tribute to DeGeneres, who is now in the midst of her final season for her beloved show, in person with all of the intensity and emotion he showed in driving the Petes to a win against the Ottawa 67’s on Saturday.
The video went viral, garnering millions of views on Tik Tok and other social media platforms, and Perks was invited to appear on national television in both Canada and the United States as a result of his success.
On stage, the animated Perks remarked, “For 19 seasons, you have given your everything to this audience.” “You put up a good show. You made a lot of fun of yourself. You burst out laughing. You wept a lot, and you gave a lot of yourself. If you ever find yourself saying goodbye and turning out the lights, just know that you, Ellen, will always get the W because you have always done whatever it takes to be yourself.
From that point on, he was just referred to as Coach California. The video acquired widespread recognition throughout North America, ultimately attracting the attention of producers for the Ellen DeGeneres Show on NBC television.
In order to appear on the program, Coach Cal and his family were flown out to California, and his segment premiered only a few days ago. Despite the fact that Coach Cal did not disappoint, he spent the majority of the interview explaining to Ellen why he believes it is important to constantly think positively and why he incorporates “get the W” into every one of his motivational speeches. A great motivating message for Ellen was also given by Coach Cal, which moved the daytime presenter to tears.
